Where We Are

A quiet picturesque village in the heart of the French countryside

A great location! To the front of the house we overlook the church that has been sympathetically restored by the village residents and is one of the only churches in the surrounding area to still have its ancient bells chime.

The pace of life is slow and relaxed; passing the time of day whilst sitting under the old chestnut tree is normal here and a great chance to practice French.

To the rear of the house we have the peace and tranquility of the countryside, the gardens surround the house and there are views over the horse paddocks, the river Charente and the rural landscape beyond.

A house with lots of history

Not much remains of the X century castle that stood here but there are examples of XV and XVI century architecture still remaining in the village.

The original house was demolished in 1884 and rebuilt to be grander by a wealthy Lord; the house remained in the same family for well over a hundred years but was left empty for many years before we purchased it in 2014.

The XVI century dwellings have not been inhabited for at least 90 years and remain, as they would have been over five hundred years ago.

Easy to get to with great road links to the local area and further afield

We are located in south-west France between the cities of Limoges to the east and Angoulême to the south-west.

The Medieval Town of Confolens is only a ten-minute drive away, and from here it is easy to continue on to the city of Poitiers.

The local town of Roumazieres Loubert with all the necessities is less than five minutes drive away and is on the N141 route national, from here it is straightforward to get to Limoges, Angoulême and onto the surrounding areas and further afield.
